Greenpeace activists board coal ship bound for Kingsnorth power station

Police arrest six as four other protesters board ship, saying they have enough supplies to last several days

Six people were arrested when climate change campaigners boarded a coal freighter and stopped it unloading its cargo at the planned site of the new Kingsnorth power station today.

Four protesters remain on board the ship, 10 metres up the foremast, and are in a stand-off with police on the deck of the ship.

UK: G20 protesters 'offered cash' by police to spy on environmental groups

[from The Guardian]

Fresh evidence has emerged of police efforts to recruit paid spies within environmental groups after the Guardian revealed that police in Scotland are running a network of hundreds of informants inside pressure groups.

Anti-nuclear protesters in Scotland said yesterday that military police had offered them cash in exchange for information.

One protester said he was offered money on top of his jobseeker's allowance - a move sanctioning benefit fraud - if he gave military police the names of people planning environmental action. One activist from Plane Stupid revealed that members had been given £20 by police.

UK: Police make pre-emptive raids to arrest 114 Climate Activists

From Nottinghamshire Indymedia: 114 activists were arrested in a 2am police raid on a community centre and school on Sneinton Dale, Nottingham, early on Easter Monday, 13th April 2009. It is believed that a demonstration was planned at the E.On powerstation at Ratcliffe-on-Soar as a spokesperson for the company claimed that it was the "planned target of an organised protest". The Ratcliffe-on-Soar coal-fired power station is the 3rd largest source of carbon dioxide emissions in the UK and has been previously targeted by activists.

There are some posts on this website relating to the camp :-

The most recent post I have written concerns mounting Police provocation at the G20 Climate Camp. I have serious concerns about the health and safety of those still on the site, as they are being penned in and provoked, and they do not all have the necessary resources to keep warm tonight :-

STOP PRESS : Reclaim the Sheets

STOP PRESS: News from the future‏

This week, we’re printing a special publication, urging journalists
and big business to put people first. With 2020 hindsight, we’ll show
how action today made the future possible.

Without radical change, the world will soon be a hostile environment,
unleashing weather of mass destruction on our Age of Stupid. So what’s
stopping us? In simple terms: the economy, stupid.

If we accepted limits to growth, and invested billions in a Green New
Deal instead of bank bailouts, we might cut emissions as fast we need
to. Carbon rationing would help, but we’ll have to demand it. And for
that, we need to hear about the benefits.
