New Facebook group for Climate IMC supporters

Climate Indymedia face particular challenges as an entirely online organisation. Unlike other local indys, we don't get to know each other by having physical meetings and socialising. To try to alleviate this problem, lets try a few new things.

Love it or hate it, you have to admit that Facebook is a great social networking tool. To facilitate better communication and solidarity amongst the participants of Climate Indy, I have set up a Facebook group here:

The Standover Group - A parody of big business

An exclusive alliance of big businesses resolutely committed to the financial wellbeing of their stakeholders, the Standover Group works tirelessly to show the Government that less, not more regulation is not just the right way, but the only way to secure immediate prosperity for important business players.

We recognise that an economy is like a pyramid of champagne flutes, and that only by filling up the vessel at the apex can wealth trickle down to those on the lower echelons.

Evening Standard Promotes Fossil Fools Day

The Evening Standard's recent run-in with the press complaints commission (which can be viewed here http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2008/03/394299.html ), which regarded last years Climate Action Camp near Heathrow Airport, seems to have resulted in a remarkable volte-face with regards to climate activism. These photographs where taken of billboards around London on Fossil Fools day.

Corporate vs. Popular Solutions to the Climate Crisis

Climate Change: Crisis and Opportunity

Presentation by Anne Petermann, Co-Director, Global Justice Ecology Project

15 March 2008, New York City

Global warming is humanity's greatest challenge. As such, we must tackle this
issue on several fronts. We must build opposition to the corporate-controlled
false solutions to climate change that dominates the media, in order to open

Global warming and other energy & carbon -related crises -- as well as associated interests

"I used to worry for my grandchildren. Now there is a fairly high probability that I will experience the more severe effects of climate change at first hand."

"If you care about climate change forget about ‘saving the planet’"

George M. on why we shouldn't ask others to "save the planet" -
"One psychological response to climate change is to find language and images that create distance - to suggest that it will affect someone else in the future. So the talk and images are of ‘climate’ not ‘weather’, polar bears not hedgehogs, African children not our own.
‘The Planet’ is about as distant as one can get - I am not being called on to save my family, my community, my country, my world or even my Earth. It is The Planet - a lump of cold rock seen from space. I’ll be honest - I don’t give a damn about ‘The Planet’ - it means nothing to me."

Gambling with our future in Bali.

I am
currently participating in the UN Climate Conference in Bali representing a
vast Coalition of Australian Youth organisations concerned about climate
change. What has terrified me during
the conference is that the politics in Bali have not reflected the incredible
urgency of the problem.
